The Oakland County Sheriff’s Re-Cycle for Kids program is hosting a bicycle and helmet collection drive for Oakland County children and adults in need. The program collects and refurbishes bicycles to be distributed at no cost through non-profit organizations.
New or used bicycles of all sizes and accessories may be dropped off contact-free from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on June 20, at 1-800-Self-Storage.com moving trucks parked at two locations: at the junction of Woodward Avenue and South Old Woodward Avenue in Birmingham (across from Sherwin Williams Paint Store) and at Lot 39 on Oakland University’s campus on Squirrel Road at the intersection of Pioneer Drive in Auburn Hills.
Volunteers will be available to remove bikes from vehicles, following CDC social distancing guidelines. Individuals dropping off bikes are asked to stay in their car. Monetary donations can be made at supportsheriffpal.com/donate-sheriff-pal. For more information, visit www.oakgov.com/sheriff/Community%20Services/Pages/default.aspx.
Partners in the bicycle drive include Dan Gutfreund Realty Group, (a member of Signature Sotheby’s), 1-800-Self-Storage.com, Birmingham Police Department, and the Sheriff PAL Program (Police Athletic League) Oakland County.
Bicycles may also be dropped off throughout the year, during regular business hours, at Oakland County Sheriff’s Office substations and at 1-800-Self-Storage.com locations in Troy, Oak Park, and Rochester.
